Thundering Thursday VOL 13-11 – Corvette Owners Are Driving Their Cars

Corvette Owners Are Driving Their
Cars More Than Ever!

Despite soaring values in the collector car market, Corvette owners across the country are doing something unexpected, they’re driving their cars more than ever. Recent reports from collector insurers and Corvette clubs show record participation in cruises, tours, and national events, with Corvettes continuing to be the most actively driven classic performance cars in America. Unlike many high-dollar collectibles that spend their lives under covers, Corvettes still rack up real miles.

One reason is simple: Corvettes were built to be enjoyed. Owners frequently say the cars beg to be driven, whether it’s a small-block mid-year, a big-block muscle-era monster, or today’s C8. Add to that the availability of restoration parts and technical support, owners now feel more confident than ever keeping their cars road-ready instead of museum-bound.

Even rare models, once reserved almost exclusively for show fields, are showing up more regularly on club drives and road tours. The mindset is shifting: preserving history doesn’t mean parking it forever. Provenance still matters, but seat time is becoming just as important to today’s Corvette community.

The trend sends a refreshing message to owners everywhere: drive your Corvette, that’s what makes it special.

Steve L

I was 12 years old sitting on my familys’ front porch and a brand new 1958 blue Corvette slowly passed by. It was a hot rod neighbours’ new car and the hood was not on it. I could see 6 small chrome breathers on the engine. Turned out, he had just put 6 two barrel carburetors on it and was testing it. I was hooked!

I bought my first Corvette in 1967. It was a 1965 Convertible (396-425, triple black, sidepipes, hard top, leather interior) with 2 months factory warranty remaining.

I have had Corvettes ever since. I am now on my seventh Corvette, a C8 HTC Z51. I have modified it to my taste. Lowered, aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket 20 & 21? wheels and tires, debadged, x drilled/slotted brake rotors, grill guards, and more.

My C7 was going to be my last car, then the mid engine came along. This one’s a keeper.

This Week’s Premier Selections

1973 L82 Convertible
Beautiful Show Car!

Mille Miglia Red w/Black Interior, L82 350/250hp, 3-Speed Automatic Transmission

The year 1973 was a fascinating chapter in Corvette history — a perfect blend of old-school muscle and new-age style. It was the only year you could get the best of both worlds — the bold new urethane 5-mph front bumper paired with those classic twin chrome rear bumpers. One look and you’ll see why many call it the sleekest Shark ever built! This Corvette also introduced a few firsts — fresh side vents, a redesigned front clip, and that iconic cowl-induction hood that channeled cool air right into the heart of the beast. It was bold, innovative, and pure Corvette attitude!

And this example? It’s a survivor in every sense, over five decades later, it still wears much of its original paint and interior. Under the hood beats its numbers-matching L82 350ci V8, backed by the smooth Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission. This car has clearly lived a pampered life, and it shows! Fully optioned with: Turbo-Fire L82 350ci V8 Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic Air conditioning Power windows Custom deluxe shoulder belts Auxiliary hard top Black vinyl soft top Rear window defogger Power steering AM/FM stereo radio Black custom leather interior Polished aluminum YJ8 wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/As. 2014 Premier Edition Convertible
#32 of only 550 built, and with only 16,730 miles!

Lime Rock Green over Brownstone 6-Speed Paddle-Shift Automatic

In 2014, the Corvette world was rocked by the debut of the all-new C7 generation. With a bold redesign, an aluminum frame for improved rigidity and weight reduction, and the high-tech LT1 engine under the hood, the C7 was more than just evolution, it was a revolution. Packing 460 horsepower thanks to direct injection, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation, it delivered both breathtaking performance and improved fuel efficiency.

In 2014, Chevrolet released the Premier Edition Convertible, a limited production celebration of the new Stingray. Finished in head-turning Lime Rock Green with a Kalahari soft top and rich Brownstone interior, it came loaded with exclusive features: Z51 performance suspension, chrome wheels, rear spoiler, special badging, and its own VIN sequence.

Only 550 Premier Convertibles were produced, making it a true modern collectible. This example is a standout—only 16,730 miles from new and in pristine condition throughout. It’s #32 of only 550 units built. A rare opportunity to own a piece of Corvette history that’s equal parts showstopper and driver.
