The 1978 Indy Pace Car occupies a unique place in Corvette history. It marked both the Corvette’s 25th Anniversary and the first time America’s Sports Car was selected as the official pace car for the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet originally planned to build just 300 replicas, but overwhelming demand ultimately pushed production to 6,502 cars, essentially one for every U.S. Chevrolet dealer at the time.
