The C8 Manual Rumor Is Officially Dead
For years, Corvette fans have held onto hope that Chevrolet might one day bring a manual transmission back to the mid-engine C8. That hope took on new life when Tremec showed a six-speed manual transaxle at SEMA and suggested it could physically fit the platform. But this week, Corvette chief engineer Tony Roma made it official at Sebring: a factory manual is not coming to the C8. He said Chevrolet has no plans to pursue it, adding that the current 8-speed dual-clutch is simply faster and better suited to the car. GM also pointed to low demand, noting that by the end of the C7 generation, buyers just were not choosing manuals in big enough numbers to justify the investment. For purists, it is disappointing news, but it also makes the last front-engine, stick-shift Corvettes feel even more special today.

When I was 16 I got to ride in a brand new silver coupe, never forgot it. I grew up with the straight axles, I always think a Corvette must have a fabric top and round taillights. I have had several of all of them, today I drive a red fabric top 2010 Corvette GS convertible, had it over 11 years, bought it with 7,500 miles, has 55,000 now. Also have a white 2013 60th Anniversary 427 convertible with 12,000 miles, have it mainly for shows.
