Mike Vietro at SEMA 2021
The specs for the new Z06 motor, named the “LT6,” are out and history is repeating itself. Just like moving the motor to the center of the car, it was time to dramatically reconfigure the engine design. So, for just the 2nd time in Corvette history, power will be provided by a Dual Over Head Cam (DOHC) motor with 4-valves per cylinder.
The Z06 moniker is known for upgrading the standard Corvette into a track-ready racer, while still being dependable as a daily driver. The new 2023 C8 Z06 is ready to follow in these footsteps.
Let’s start with the most important numbers: 670 horsepower at 8,400 rpm will get you around the track quickly, while the 460 pound-feet of torque at 6,300 rpm will get you off the line quickly. This gives the C8 Z06 20 more horsepower than the C7 Z06, but because of the 8,600 redline, the torque drops by 190 pound-feet. If the Z06 didn’t have gears, this would be bad news as torque would be more important; however, with gears, torque is important for launching off the line. After that, HP is all that matters.
The LT6 has a bore of 4.104 inches and a stroke of 3.150 inches giving it a total displacement of 5.5 liters. The block is made of A319-T7 sand-cast aluminum, pressed-in iron cylinder liners, four-bolt main bearing caps, and A356 T6 cast aluminum heads.
Win a 2022 Corvette IMSA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition Coupe Plus $25,000 Cash!
It only took a few order cycles for the 2022 Corvette ISMA GTLM Championship C8.R Edition to officially sell out. The first special edition of the C8 era was limited to 1,000 cars. Buyers could choose between the Accelerate Yellow or the Hypersonic Gray colors as well as between the Coupe and Convertible models. Although they are sold out, that doesn’t mean you still can’t get one in your garage. The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum is offering the chance to win a Hypersonic Gray C8.R Edition Coupe plus $25,000 cash to help pay the taxes!

Clyde R., retired Station Chief from Fort Bragg Fire & Emergency Services.
I was the Station Chief of WMD Special Operation for the Fort Bragg Fire & Emergency Services Division when I purchased this 2016 C7 Z51. I wanted to do something special other than just showing a beautiful Corvette. One of my former Firefighters accepted a position in New York with FDNY, Eng60, Lad17. So, I contacted him and the 9/11 Memorial to coordinate showing it throughout SC as the rolling 9/11 Memorial Corvette to honor those men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice. I served 3 years active duty at the end of Vietnam and 28 years as a DOD Firefighter. It has been a blessing and honor to protect our Military and their dependents. I am also a member of the South Carolina Car Club in Myrtle Beach, SC.
