Chevrolet swept Autoweek’s best car and best truck awards for 2014 with its new Corvette Stingray and Silverado pickup.
It was the first time that one brand has won both awards, the magazine said.
“With the level of this automotive game as high as it is, it’s daunting to make a good car or truck – let alone great ones – but that’s exactly what Chevrolet has done,” the magazine said.
The awards are the latest for the 2014 Corvette Stingray and 2014 Silverado, both of which have been cited several times this year for being the best new vehicles in their segments.
Autoweek said its evaluation included track testing, driving vehicles on Detroit streets, taking them on vacations and consulting with the magazine’s West Coast writers, who experience the vehicles in different conditions.
The Corvette beat out the Mercedes-Benz S550 and Jaguar F-Type to clinch the award.
With the Silverado, Autoweek said it wondered initially – before it had driven the truck — whether its styling was too conservative, concluding later that the truck was “more refined than ever.”
“No doubt the new Silverado is an outstanding full-size pickup, so much so we put one on our June 24 cover,” the magazine said.
