Chevrolet’s Corvette Stingray sports car and Silverado pickup earn top honors.
Chevrolet’s Corvette Stingray – Car of the Year
There was much cheering as the announcement was made that the Stingray had earned this prestigious award. Tadge Juechter, chief engineer for Corvette, proudly accepted the trophy. He pointed out that it was one year ago that Chevrolet first introduced the Stingray to the media at the Detroit Auto Show.
The Stingray is the seventh generation of the Corvette. Chevrolet describes the new Corvette as the perfect balance of technology, design and performance, and the 2014 Corvette Stingray is the most powerful standard Corvette model ever offered. When equipped with the Z51 package, Chevrolet claims that the Corvette will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, run the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at a speed of 119 mph, and stop from 60 mph in 107 feet — all very impressive figures.
A true American icon, the Corvette was introduced in January 1953.The first 300 cars were produced by hand and powered by 235-cubic-inch 6-cylinder engines.
