WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. — Joao Barbosa passed fellow Corvette DP driver Alex Gurney with 20 minutes remaining and held on to win the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series’ Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen on Sunday.

Barbosa teamed with Darren Law to give the Action Express Corvette DP team the lead in the North American Endurance Championship, a special three-race competition that began with the Rolex 24 at Daytona and ends July 27 at Indianapolis.

Barbosa and Law combined to average 102.827 mph, with Barbosa edging Gurney by 0.238 seconds at the finish at Watkins Glen International.

“Obviously, I was able to use the (slower) traffic a little bit to my advantage,” Barbosa said. “Gurney did a great job but when I saw my opportunity, I knew it was probably my best shot and I had to go.”

In the production-based GT class, Robin Liddell and John Edwards co-drove their Stevenson Auto Group Chevrolet Camaro to the win, and took the lead in the NAEC’s GT points.

Action Express leads Starworks Motorsport — which finished third place Sunday — by two points in the NAEC’s Daytona Prototype standings going into the Indianapolis finale.
