One hundred years back, in 1919, Ugo Zagato founded the coachbuilding company that continues to this day in his name — Carrozzeria Zagato.

It also continues to be owned and operated by the Zagato family, and is thriving, making it unique among the many coachbuilders that began in the creative Classic Era between the two great world wars.

“The fact that Zagato remains Zagato is very special,” said Concours Chairman Sandra Button. “We want to honor that accomplishment, highlighting many of Zagato’s greatest creations for the collector car world to celebrate.”

The legacy of Zagato — its early technical creations, its iconic postwar designs and its ongoing presence — will all be celebrated at the coming Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

In an homage to 100 years of Carrozzeria Zagato coachwork, the 2019 Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance poster highlights three of Zagato’s greatest works: the focus is on an 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1 owned by David and Erin Eichenbaum, and an Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 and an Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato are also included. Tim Layzell, now rightly regarded as one of the world’s leading motoring artists, depicts these three cars driving away from the Bixby Canyon Bridge on the beautiful highway that is such a highlight of the Tour.

“I have no problem in admitting that what Zagato successfully does today — our whole concept of ‘Atelier’ — originated while walking the field at Pebble Beach. The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is primarily responsible for enabling Marella and I to celebrate together the first 100 years of Carrozzeria Zagato.”
