BRADENTON – A 60-year-old man was hurt after his Corvette was rear-ended on U.S. 41 Friday afternoon.
Thomas Harris of Bradenton was heading north but stopped in the right lane just south of 53rd Avenue West at about 3:20 p.m. when a dark van hit the rear of his 2000 Corvette, causing about $3,000 worth of damage, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.
The van pulled off the road and onto the east shoulder, and the driver got out to check on Harris. Harris said he told the driver he was injured and asked him to call 911, but the driver instead returned to his vehicle and left the scene.
The van was described as an older style minivan, dark in color, possibly blue. The driver was described as a white male in his 40s, clean shaven with light-colored hair.
Harris was taken to Blake Hospital with minor injuries.
Charges are pending.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information about the identity and/or location of the driver and/or vehicle is asked to contact Trooper Fitzpatrick at the Florida Highway Patrol at (239) 938-1800.
