Detroit — Talk about looking pretty in the city!
At least 100 of the most beautiful classic vehicles on wheels are on display — and many on sale – at the Detroit International Classic Car Show at Cobo Center Tuesday through Thursday.
Think of the hot rods, street rods, customized cars, classics, pickup trucks and sports cars as an appetizer for the upcoming Woodward Dream Cruise set for Saturday.
Mackinac residents Bill and Tekla Kurkowski brought their pristine 1968 Chevy mint green and white pickup truck to the show.
“Those are the original colors,” said Kurkowski, 66, who is retired from GM.
“I bought it in Kentucky, had it shipped to Mackinac and then rebuilt it. I have it for sale here at the show, and I’m going to use the money for a 1955 Chevy I just bought in California … from a guy who lives about a mile from Folsom Prison.”
Among the most spectacular of the vehicles is a jet black 1931 Buick 90 Series limousine that’s longer than a weekend in Kabul.
The limo weighs in at 4,435 pounds, seats six and is powered by a 455 cubic-inch, eight-cylinder automatic engine. Buick produced 138,965 cars in 1931, but only 514 Series 90 limousines, one of which is on display at the car show at Cobo.
Besides the car show, Cobo is also hosting an After Market Parts show and the Detroit Specialty Equipment Show, all for the same $10 general entrance fee.
